A little about me

Hey!

I’m Lauren, the heart and soul behind Hey Lauren, your go-to support for overwhelmed mums in business. If you have ever had a million entrepreneurial dreams like owning a café, a bookshop, a clothing store, or a jewellery line, same girl!

But I never had the confidence to jump into my dream. So I played it safe with the 9-5 grind, which often stretched into +12-hour days, filled with constant communication hiccups and the chaos of working in a large team with big personalities. IYKYK!

I loved my job and the people I worked with, but deep down, I knew I wanted out. The turning point came when my son was born with a heart condition. During his operation, I worked in the hospital, waiting for him to come out. That was my wake-up call. WTF was I doing? I realised I needed to change my life.

So I started a product-based business.

Balancing my job, small business and mum life was a struggle. When my son went to daycare and inevitably got sick, I was the one who had to take time off work, letting my team down and I was burning the candle at both ends. I worked late into the night, fulfing product orders often until 3 AM, and my mental health I’ll be honest was at rock bottom. I battled postpartum depression and anxiety, and at the end of 2021 every time I heard the notification of a sale, I cried—not happy dancing, but because it meant more time away from my family to fulfil orders.

So I burnt it all down, in January 2022

In March 2022, the needing a way out of the 9-5 returned, so I started Hey Lauren, initially supporting photographers as a Virtual Assistant. As I worked with more clients, I discovered my true passion: helping small business owners calm the chaos in their back end. I knew firsthand the importance of having someone to handle the details, freeing up time for the things that matter most.

While still working my 9-5, I realized I didn’t want to juggle everything again, especially as I was trying for another baby. I wanted to be present for my kids, do every school drop-off and pick-up, and not miss out on precious moments. So, at the end of 2022, I quit my job. I figured the worst that could happen was that I’d have to find another job.

Thankfully, I survived—and thrived. I had a baby, took the time I needed, and gradually built up my client base as my capacity grew. Today, I’m a proud stay-at-home mum who’s not just surviving but thriving with a business I’m incredibly proud of.

Why Hey Lauren?
